Meaning
1. O Great God Ganesha, you bear an enchanting adorable look. You are the unique God with one tusk, large winnowing elephantine ears, a bounty looking belly and reddish glow over your pious body. O Ganesha you are the great hurdler in path of evil of forces. You are just and benevolent towards righteous people and destroyer of evils. O merciful Ganesha, we prostrate before you praying that you bless us with fortune and overall well being.
2. O Mighty Ganesha you incarnate in hues of deep grey (smoky hues) to sly the devils. Your are the presiding deity of Ganas, the celestial army of Lord Shiva. You are adored by the beautiful crescent reclined on your forehead. O Ganesha your walk boldly like an elephant with following ears and have one tusk. You are the glorified son of Lord Shiva and brother (anuj) of Lord Subrahmanya (Kartikeya).
3. The Great Ganesha is glorified in this Ganesha Shodasha Namavali - one who concentrates on Lord Ganesha and appraises Him in mind through these sixteen form shall be bestowed bliss. These sixteen names of Lord Ganesha when recited at onset of journey, new business ventures, starts of ceremonies such as marriages, home warming, to name some; enable the worshipper to succeed without facing any obstacles.
