Ganesha as Swastika
Ganesha as Swastika |
The word 'swastika' is a Sanskrit word signifying universal welfare (Swasti means well-being of everyone and ka means symbol).
The swastika is one of the most ancient symbols.
It is an auspicious symbol which is believed to bring peace, life and good luck. The symbol comprises of a revolving sun, fire or life. The symbol is believed to be associated with Ganesha because Ganesha is an embodiment of Riddhi (prosperity), Siddhi and Bhuddhi, which together grant auspiciousness. It is usually accompained by Subh Labh on either sides (hence representing the family) which together bring peace and fortune.

Ganesha as OM
Unlike Swastika whose usage is limited as religious icon, OM is a spiritual icon, a sacred sound or syllable and a meditation mantra.
Unlike Swastika whose usage is limited as religious icon, OM is a spiritual icon, a sacred sound or syllable and a meditation mantra.
OM represents the soul (Atman or self) which is connected to divine spirit - the ultimate reality. This is the reason why Ganesha is associated with primordial sound, the sound of creation and existence- OM. It is believed that Lord Ganesha is the beginning of universe. He is said to have created all elements of existence, given its forms and feelings. In other words, Ganesha is the manifestation of principle and hence believed to be OM itself.
OM is the most ubiquitous and revered symbol in Hinduism.
The word OM is seen inscribed on the right palm of Lord Ganesha, bestowing blessings. It is also seen on trunk of Ganesha.
