7. Ganesha Shloka and Mantras

The word mantra is derived from the Sanskrit word 'maan' which means 'to think'. Thus Mantras are a collection of words which enable us to think on a singular subject at a given time. The chanting of Mantras enables us to appraise the subject (particular God). The worshipper derives benefit from this chanting.

The Mantras are structured as hymns or shlokas. They help in invoking God to seek His (or Her) blessings in form of spiritual growth, protection agaibst menace, material growth or seek blessings to perform ones duties better.

The Agni Purâna mentions the importance of Mantras. It is mentions that when mantas are recited mutely (within mind) they become more effective.

Mantras become effective when recited with true spirit. In other words, successful chanting depends on (1) mental discipline (2) mode of breathing (3) correct recitation.
